Vietnam has a large extension from north to south and that why this country is divided into different climatic zones. The best time to travel to Vietnam is from April to September.
1 - The climate of Northern Vietnam
Winter in northern Vietnam usually lasts from November to February. The climate in this period is dry, with little rain, the temperature fluctuates around 15°C and can be lower at night. In the mountains of the north-west the temperature is lower than in the plains, sometimes there is fog and frost.
From March to May, the climate is warm and pleasant, with temperatures ranging between 20 and 22°C.
June to July is the summer period. Maximum temperatures in summer can reach 37 - 38°C.
From August to October, from August, the climate of northern Vietnam is less hot, the weather gradually becomes autumnal, cool and pleasant.
2 - The climate of central Vietnam
The climate in the central region is temperate, with two distinct seasons per year, the rainy season and the dry season.
From January to March, temperatures are between 20 and 25°C, the climate is warm and dry.
From April to September the climate is very hot and dry, with temperatures between 30 and 35°C. These months are ideal for spending a beach holiday in Hoi An and Nha Trang.
Only October and November fall into the stormy season with frequent heavy rains and sometimes storms, but from December the situation is better.
3 - The climate of South Vietnam
Southern Vietnam has a typically tropical climate. It is hot all year round with temperatures between 30 and 35 degrees. There is only a distinction between the rainy season and the dry season.
The rainy season runs from mid-May to approximately mid-September. In most cases, only rain showers occur in the afternoon.
